About the Museum:

The National Gallery of Art was created in 1937 for the people of the United States of America by a joint resolution of Congress, accepting the gift of financier and art collector Andrew W. Mellon. The museum houses many permanent exhibits, including works by American and British painters, 16th-17th Dutch Masters, Mark Rothko, 17th – 19th Century French painters, 13th – 18th Century Italian painters, 14th – 19th Century European sculpture, and much more. An outdoor sculpture garden offers year-round enjoyment to the public in an informal, yet elegant setting for works of modern and contemporary sculpture. In addition to its permanent collections, NGA hosts many changing exhibits.

Explore the various sections of the NGA’s website and discover many, wonderful children, teen, and family programs, classes, and events.

Through their Education link, you will also find a compendium of free teaching resources and information about loan materials.

Through Plan A Visit >> Visitor’s Guide you can download 5 different Family Guides to help you prepare for a visit.
